Contribute to preserving the food safety of the products from associated companies through the management of an integrated system that considers the entire productive chain, from the feed mills, to the farms, and the slaughterhouses.
Thanks to the Food Safety Management System (which includes prevention, surveillance, and/or risk control programs), the pork producing companies fully comply with the group of demands regarding animal health, food safety, and quality of national and international markets, defined by competent organizations.
This effort is made possible by the active participation between public and private entities, with the support of universities, laboratories, specialists, sanitary authorities, and the consumers. This coordinated work is a requirement in order to maintain leadership and competitiveness in a demanding and challenging market.
ASPROCER, together with the sanitary authority, have managed to develop programs, protocols, and plans that guarantee consumers, national and abroad, the food safety of our pork products, which are produced under the highest standards and productive processes.

To contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the sanitary heritage of pork through projects and programs which also contribute to the compliance of best practices regarding animal welfare.
The Agriculture and Livestock Service, SAG (for its acronym in Spanish), and the industry, in coordination with ASPROCER view animal health and welfare as fundamental pillars to ensure the competitiveness of the pork sector, and guarantee the destination markets of exported pork products, certifying their food safety and quality.
Animal welfare in Chile is addressed from the perspective of the prevention of the entry of exotic diseases, therefore avoiding the entry of pathologies into the country, and quickly implementing the necessary actions for its eradication if detected.
At the same time, in accordance to the new demands of international markets, the industry and ASPROCER (under the supervision of the SAG) developed a standardized program for Best Practices of Animal Welfare, whose scope is applicable to every production farm, form of transportation, and the management at slaughterhouses.
Carry out procedures and actions to support associates, in coordination with government authorities to facilitate exportation and have a smooth commercial exchange with other countries.
The Chilean pork sector experimented an expansive production process throughout the last three decades, when each company incorporated products with a higher added value, privileging quality. Thanks to this productive and commercial strategy with a clear focus on the global market, Today, Chile is 6th in the world ranking of exporting countries.

The main challenges of sustainability for the national pork industry are the following:
People and Communities | |
---|---|
Workers | ASPROCER participates in the project “work competence in the agriculture and livestock sector” from the Ministry of Agriculture and the program “Chile Valora”, which allows for standardization, certification, and acknowledgement of the competences and skills of the workers in the pork sector, increasing productivity. |
Corporate Social Responsibility | ASPROCER’s goal in this matter is that all associates incorporate into their strategy a policy of Corporate Social Responsibility, with a long-term vision and emphasized on communication. In order to do this, the Practical Manual for Community Relations was developed, as well as a corporate reputation index. |
Environment | |
---|---|
Odors | The different actions ASPROCER and it’s associated companies have in this matter include efficient work and the use of sustainable management practices, the quantification and modeling of emissions, the standardization and use of new and better technologies, the participation in the construction of a country regulation and the incorporation of environmental mechanisms for the planning of rural territories. |
Greenhouse Gas Effect | ASPROCER has its own On-line Carbon Footprint Calculator for the use of its associated companies http://cc.asociacion.cl/) -that publishes the emissions by product category in each one of its productive stages, allowing the identification of critical situations and their management. Additionally, ASPROCER works with the Ministry of the Environment (MMA, for its acronym in Spanish) in the “National Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions”, from which Chile reports to the United Nations. Among the advanced technologies of treatment the industry has implemented are biodigestors, active mud farms and worm filters. |
Slurry Management | By virtue of the second Pork Clean Production Agreement, ASPROCER has promoted the value of slurries through their use as fertilizers and improving soils. |
Water | ASPROCER promotes the efficient use of water through the implementation of best practices in all associated companies that allow saving and reusing water resources. |
Energy | One of the main objectives at ASPROCER is the promotion of the energy efficiency at the associated companies through the identification of the areas of production with the most intense use of energy and for concrete opportunities of improvement. For the slaughterhouses, productive stage with the most amount of energy consumption, ASPROCER has a “Energy Efficiency Guide”. |
Territorial Planning | Currently, ASPROCER is working with the Ministry of the Environment in order to advance in the development of regulations and norms that allow addressing sensitive issues such as odors and territorialplanning. |
Represent the pork sector before national and international authorities regarding sectorial competence, as well as the industry’s interests regarding food safety, sanitary management, and related issues with the sanitary opening and maintenance of international markets.
Since 1985, ASPROCER has focused on its constant role of support for the industry, mainly regarding issues that demand a collective view or effort from all the associated companies, offering technical and strategic assistance with the permanent support of the public sector, which has allowed it to develop the national pork sector. Thanks to the public-private works, today there is a consolidated industry with positive results and great achievements: Chile is the 6th meat-exporting country in the world and the main meat Chile exports is pork.
The industry participation in sectorial issues, as well as the national and international area, has been channeled mainly through its industry organization. An example of this is the constant participation of ASPROCER in Public-Private International Commercial Negotiation Committees, coordinated together with the General Direction of International Economic Relations, DIRECON for its acronym in Spanish).
